But the practical effect for series bettors is more straightforward: a reliever who pitched yesterday is less likely to pitch today, and if he does pitch, he is less likely to be effective.

The comparison often reveals asymmetries that the series price and game moneyline do not fully capture. If Team A has its closer and both setup men in Tier 1 while Team B’s closer is in Tier 3 and one setup man is in Tier 2, Team A has a significant late-inning advantage that may not be reflected in a line set primarily on starting pitcher quality. This is the single most consistent source of value I have found in series betting, and it requires no advanced modelling — just attention to detail and the discipline to update your spreadsheet every day.
How Bookmakers Adjust Lines for Depleted Bullpens
Bookmakers are not blind to bullpen fatigue, but their adjustment process has limitations. The opening line for each game in a series is typically set by a model that weights the starting pitching matchup most heavily, with a bullpen adjustment based on recent usage patterns. That adjustment tends to be conservative — perhaps half a run on the total and 10-15 cents on the moneyline — because the model cannot predict exactly which relievers the manager will use or how they will perform.
